Xerox Ferox in the Raw!
John Szpunar’s Forthcoming Headpress Book Debuts at FantaCon 2013
Another cover I wrapped up recently: a full spread (front, back, spine) design and collage with new art elements for John Szpunar‘s Xerox Ferox, an intensive, exhaustive, interview-based overview of the entire horror movie zine scene, from its humble beginnings to the present.
I’m in the book, too, as one of the interview subjects—and I’ll be attending FantaCon 2013 (my one and only convention appearance in 2013!), so you’ll be able to get John‘s and my signatures on your copy there, if you’re there, too!
Since copyright clearances for my own cover art for past zines like Ecco, ETC (European Trash Cinema), etc. were granted by me to me, I constructed the primary front cover elements around that body of work.
This is the raw scan only, of the front cover portion only, awaiting the logo and final text copy placement. Also note: Ian Richardson has sparked and cleaned the image up further, and I’ve yet to see what Headpress has done with this to prep it for press releases and/or final publication.
Still, I thought some of you might enjoy seeing this—and if there’s a key zine or two not visible here, it’s probably on the back cover collage illustration (or I didn’t have a decent copy in my collection to work from).

Xerox Ferox! What a name! Good to see so much Chas Balun on display, the man who was my pipeline to seeing so many then obscure horrors in the late 80s/early 90′s and was also very quick to give illustration praise and pointers to a young artist who could really use it.
I’ll be buying this book for sure and will be seeing you at Fantacon this year! Take Care!.
