CCS’s Jen Vaughn Shines; DC Ratings Essay Comin’ Up & More

* Center for Cartoon Studies senior Jen Vaughn is right this nanosecond en route to Austin, Texas to shine at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival! Here’s the details, followed by the essential links:
Cartoonist Jen Vaughn is thrilled to announce her first SXSW InteractiviZINE!
From March 12th to March 16th, she will attend the SXSW (South by Southwest) Interactive Festival in Austin, TX and will “cover” the event multimedia-style in her Interactivitizine!
SXSW is chock full of panels, events, and of course parties, related to social media, convergence, video games, start-ups and anything Internet.
Upon the conclusion of her visit, Jen will post her drawings, notes, photos and other ephemera from the festival on her website for everyone to share the wealth of information gleaned.
Anyone who donates will receive a LIMITED EDITION (PRINT) SXSW InteractiviZINE full of panel notes, comics and other special goodies made especially by Jen Vaughn.
[That alone is worth the donation -- so don't hesitate, pledge what you can this minute, right now, via the link!]
OK, so who is Jen Vaughn?
Jen creates a weekly webcomic called Mermaid Hostel and her previous works include Menstruation Station: Menarche Aboard!, and Don’t Hate, Menstruate. She is also an enthusiastic member of the Rare Bits Comics Collective.
So, do what you can for Jen today — and she’ll be sharing all she’s learned with ALL of us upon her return. That’s a mighty generous deal, and hardly a greedy appeal. Do what you can!

Preview of Things to Come

* OK, the response is overwhelming: folks want to see more about the 1986-1987 DC Comics Inc. internal ratings debacle. Your wish is my command.
I’ll post a multi-chapter chronology, with scanned documents, in the coming days starting tomorrow.
But just to make you aware of the context of these events (and to reply to those who’ve already asked either “what did it matter?” and “who cares what a publisher, even one as big as DC, decides to do as far as self-regulating their own product?,” both good questions), ponder the following. I’ll be opening with more details with tomorrow’s post…

Thank you so much, Steve! You are rockin’!
Excellent! I am SOOO very happy that you are going to be posting this stuff in it’s entirety. It’s an important part of comics history in my opinion.
